The Board of Directors Meeting

The Board of Directors meet on the first and third Wednesday of every month. The first meeting is a Work Session and the second one is the Monthly Board Meeting. The public is always welcome to attend.

Residents of the district are allowed to make comments during the beginning of the meeting. Questions will be answered via email.

The Western Cass fire Protection District is governed by a 5 member Board of Directors. These men and women hold an elected position for a period of 6 years. Their terms end in April and are staggered. Board Meetings are held the 3rd Wednesday of every month, Work Sessions are held the first Wednesday of every month. Both are at  7:00pm at Station 2 located at 20909 S. State Route Y Belton, MO. These are public meetings and everyone is welcome to attend. Tom Reintjes

Chairman (2021)

Tom is employed with BNSF Railway as an electrician. He has lived in the district since 1988. He is very involved with the City of Cleveland serving as the South Ward alderman. He has also been very active with the fire district. He began as a volunteer firefighter in 1997. He now serves on the Board as Chairman for his second term. Tom is married and has 2 grown children. He enjoys gardening in his spare time.


Terry Magelssen 

Vice Chairman (2022)

Terry is a retired Captain/Paramedic from the Grandview Fire Department where he served 35 years. He was a certified instructor for the state of Missouri Fire and Rescue Institute. He also headed the Department’s Public Education Division and served as the department’s Public Information Officer. He was selected to attend the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD. His family has lived in the district since WWII. He and his wife have lived in the district since 2005. They have 4 grown boys and 5 grandchildren. He enjoys theater, traveling the world and is very envolved in his church. Terry desires to ensure the department remains up to date operationaly and to improve response times.


Ed Summer

Treasurer (2023)

Ed is retired from a major insurance company where he served as the Director of Claims. He has a long career in managing claim departments for variious insurance companies. He has served on a number of committees for the International Claim Assoc. and is a past president of the New England Claim Assoc. He and his wife have lived in the district since 2011. They have 7 children and 25 grandchildren. Ed enjoys his chickens, rabbits, barn cats, dogs and is an avid beekeeper. Ed has served on the Board since 2014 and has a desire to maintain responsible finacial reporting, auditing and budget oversight.


Kerri Vanmeveren

Director (2026)

Kerri has lived in the KC area since 1991 and in the Fire District since 2004.  She has served on numerous professional and nonprofit boards over the years including UMKC, HIMSS, COVERSA, and Heartland to name a few.

She has a small consulting business working with clients throughout the U.S. helping them make better decisions faster using data driven strategies to increase their bottom line.  She has more than 20 years experience working for Corporations like Sprint, Cerner, Teva Pharmaceuticals and Kansas City Southern RR.  

Her academic accomplishments include a B.S. in Computer Science, an MBA with an emphasis in Leadership and Mgt, M.S. in Nonprofit Leadership, Certifications in Project Management, Six Sigma and Healthcare Technology.  

On a personal note, she has a small horse farm, competed at the National level in Arabian Western Pleasure and even attained a National Title in 2012.


Sue Hosterman

Director (2025)

Sue is a nurse with experience in pediatrics, geriatrics and health clinics. Sue volunteered for WCFPD as an EMT in the past. Sue and her husband have lived in the district since 1997 and they own and operate  an electrical contracting business. Sue is married and has 4 adult children, 13 grandchildren, and 2 great grandchildren. She enjoys Sunday family dinners, time with grandchildren, fishing, hunting, camping and traveling. She joined the fire district to see what she could do to better the emergency response for our district.
